# Connecting an Integration

> Step-by-step instructions for authenticating and connecting your first platform integration.

# Connecting an Integration

Ready to link your first platform to Merchkit? This guide walks you through the authentication and connection process for any supported platform.

## Supported Platforms

Merchkit currently integrates with:

* **Shopify** — Direct API connection
* **BigCommerce** — OAuth authentication
* **Salsify** — API key-based
* **Akeneo** — API credentials
* **WooCommerce** — REST API
* **Walmart** — Vendor API
* **Wayfair** — Partner API

## The Connection Process

### Step 1: Go to Integrations

Navigate to **Workspace → Integrations**.

### Step 2: Click "Add New Integration"

In the **Add New Integrations** grid, find the platform you want to connect and click its card.

### Step 3: Follow Platform-Specific Authentication

Each platform has its own authentication flow. For most, you'll:

1. Click **Connect** or **Authenticate**
2. Log in to your account on that platform (you'll be sent to their login page)
3. Approve Merchkit's access request
4. Return to Merchkit—the connection is established

### Step 4: Name Your Connection (Optional)

If you have multiple accounts on the same platform, you can label them (e.g., "Shopify US" vs. "Shopify EU"). This helps you remember which is which.

### Step 5: Review Permissions

Merchkit will confirm which data it can access:

* Product information
* Variants and SKUs
* Custom fields / metafields
* Pricing
* Inventory (if needed)

All platform integrations are read-write, so Merchkit can both pull data in and push changes back out. The initial import is read-only until you set up export mapping.

## Your Integration is Now Active

Once authenticated, your integration appears in the **Active Integrations** list with:

* Platform name
* Connection status (Connected)
* Last sync timestamp (will update after first import)

You won't be able to import or export data until you've set up field mapping. That's next.

## Troubleshooting Connection Issues

**"Authentication failed"**

* Verify your username and password on the platform
* Check that the account has API or integration permissions enabled
* Some platforms require you to generate an API key in your settings first—see platform-specific guides

**"Permission denied"**

* Return to the platform's app permissions settings and grant Merchkit full access to products and variants
* Some platforms require you to whitelist Merchkit's IP or domain

**"Already connected to this platform"**

* You can only connect one account per platform in Merchkit. If you need to switch accounts, delete the integration and reconnect with the new account.
